Went back to the Civil War Re-enactment today to shoot some shots of the battle, boy was it cold and windy. However, I did manage to get some shots of the cannon firing and of the troops. I had to shoot pretty much close-ups to try and eliminate some of the background clutter. All the images were shot with a Canon 50D and a Canon 100-400IS lens, and handheld because on need to move or swing quickly.
Check out my picasa album for more shots of the battle at http://picasaweb.google.com/Kestrel139/CivilWarDays

The Civil War Days at Hurricane Wave Park starts tomorrow and I was up to check out the area and the Confederate Submarine Hunley replica was on display, so I shot a couple of shots in the rain.
There is no way I would ever get in that thing, much less try to sink another ship. The 7 men who made up the crew were far braver than I think I could ever be.
I hope to post some images of the people and events in the next few days.

The other night the moon looked so bright, I decided to go out and try to take a few images. Well, I forgot the 50D is not set up to use my tripod so I had to hand hold these shots. I shot it at 1/200 F/11 ISO 125 with a canon 100-400 IS lens a 2X teleconverter with the 1.6 factor of the camera that gave me just a little over 1200mm in focal length.
Camera Raw was used to bump the exposure 1/2 stop and take a little sepia out of the moon. That was all the post processing I did so I am ok with the results.

Had to go to Virginia for family matters and to get over the trip I did some geocaching. While I was doing this, I found some interesting things to photograph. I didn't have the best light sometimes, but I made a GPS note as to where these were and will go back sometime if I am in the area at the right time to get some better shots maybe.
Most were old trucks and houses that had some character, I just wish I could have gotten closer to them, but since they were on private property and I didn't have my 100-400 lens, these will just have to do.

Out checking the area for any sign of activity as the temperatures are dropping and very windy. Very little going on, but did get an unusual bird for the area. It was an Oystercacher, I have never seen one in the area and a pair were at the boat ramp I like to check out when I am around. I plan on leaving for WV tomorrow or Thursday and will return in April when hopefully more activity will be here.
